It was like Christmas
Puma and Da Vinci received a visit from their sick previous owner
For many years, an animal-loving lady has been confined to a wheelchair. Her health deteriorated noticeably and her only ray of hope seemed to be the cats Puma and Da Vinci, who have found a new forever home in Maria Schmolln, an outlying estate of Gut Aiderbichl, a few months ago.
The additional catastrophe to the lady’s illness was that she is dependent on 24-hour care due to her health, and the carers of the sick lady demanded a “cat-free” household.
The two darlings were handed over to Gut Aiderbichl with tears in their eyes
The staff at Gut Aiderbichl are good at dealing with the joys and sorrows of people and their animals. Sometimes, however, even the animal carers are in tears, because this separation was a real hardship.
The two cats are 15 and 16 years old and are also strongly attached to the former owner. It’s difficult to be objective and dispassionate here – the cats had to go, otherwise the sick lady would have been alone and without a carer.
When you think you can't go on ...
Puma and Da Vinci have settled in wonderfully at Maria Schmolln. Puma’s favourite place is the kitchen and Da Vinci, the red tabby cat, is still on top of things.
The two were amazed when one day they recognised the voice of their previous owner. She had managed to be taken to Maria Schmolln to visit her pets.
Suddenly, Puma jumped onto her lap and started purring loudly. Da Vinci also came running straight away and was delighted, running excitedly around the lady’s wheelchair. It was hard to tell whose eyes were shining more: the lady’s or the cat’s? Loud purring could be heard – it was a bit like Christmas.
The lady knew that she could visit her pets at any time and so it was finally successful. What could be better than animals that never forget us humans?
When we help animals, we also help people
In this case, there was a happy ending – as it should be. The sick lady knows that the door to her pets Da Vinci and Puma is always open. She has now also realised that her two cats will never forget her and are happy when she comes to visit. A beautiful happy ending in this strange time.
Sometimes all you ever want is for everything to be okay again …
