Jule and Frieda

two cows from a burned stable

Since a few weeks, Jule and Frieda have found a new forever-home at the Moosfeldhof of Gut Aiderbichl.
Previously, our animal emergency center received a desperate and sad email in which it was written that there has been a major fire in a German village, which had destroyed a huge stable building.

Jule and Frieda could not stay in the pasture over the winter

Where to put the animals? For the farmer, it is a catastrophe when the stable building is completely destroyed by fire.
Not only because there is a lot of work and money in the building, but also because a barn is the home of the animals, and where are they supposed to go when everything is burned to the ground? Such destruction means a tragedy for everyone. Animals die often in the burning barn and some survive: no farmer cares about their suffering, but only fate decides when they have to go over the rainbow bridge.

We were asked to find space for Jule and Frieda, and so we managed to accommodate them at Moosfeldhof.

How do animals
experience fire?

First comes the smoke, which makes the cattle apathetic, the life-threatening fire takes hold and the cattle begin to roar loudly. The farmer has his hands full trying to drive the animals out of the barn. The situation is not an everyday one. Is there still time to get the cattle out of the barn? Each cattle reacts differently - just like humans when panic and fear break out.

Stefan was a bull and remains unforgotten

Our steer Stefan was a young branded bull when he came to Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. His body was full of burns. The destroyed skin areas were treated by the animal keepers for months. Stefan grew up and also the fur came slowly but not on all parts of his body. The areas at the hips and at the back remained bald. Stefan remained on hot summer days in his stable or stood under his sun canopy. He was a clever, sensitive and grateful ox, and could lead for some years a good life. Unfortunately, he developed a very aggressive skin cancer and a few weeks ago, we had to let our big guy go over the rainbow bridge. His life candle had gone out, but Stefan remains in our memory.

Jule and Frieda were spared from the flames

Thank God, Jule and Frieda were spared from the fire and did not have to suffer Stefan's fate.
"Meanwhile, Julchen and Frieda have settled in great, especially with our little Bond with the final number 007 on the ear tag. The other cattle on my farm will help them to forget what they have experienced. I think the two of them will definitely manage that...", Christian Kögl, manager of the Moosfeldhof.
