Romanian dogs of "mature" age are hoping for a loving welcome
From the perspective of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
The issue of dogs has been a major topic since Gut Aiderbichl began its work. Michael Aufhauserwas one of the first to report on the agonising, horrific dog killingsin the Spanish Perreras. He bought many dogs free and placed them with wonderful people.
The “Streunerprojekt Rumänien” has been in existence since 2017. The Gut Aiderbichl project in Romania was initiated by over 300 stray animalswho were being cared for by an animal lover.
Romania’s history and politics have changed the country’s culture and, for example, the way dogs are kept. Dogs and cats live on the streets of the country, are not neutered, are eventually run over and abandoned or otherwise killed. The state helps with animal shelters where the straysare housed. However, dogs and catswill getthe lethal injection, if they are not picked upwithin 14 days by people who love animals.
Drawing attention to animal suffering and helping in a diplomatic way
Simon Hahn, Head of the Dogsshelters in Romania, experiences small miracles every day with rescued dogs, but also many sad situations where there is no more help. Since 2017, around 700 Romanian dogs have been rescued from the streets. Many of them have found a loving home, and many are still waiting for people who want to take in a grateful, loyal, older dog from Romania.
Dozens of dogs have been given loving homes, some older ones – we call them “seniors” – are waiting for a place:
Bakii – is an approximately five-year-old female dog. She has lost her front right leg, probably due to an accident, but this does not cause her any problems when walking and running. With her gentle nature, she is waiting for a loving person to be her best friend.
Sandra – is an almost nine-year-old female dog who was brought to Gut Aiderbichl from another Romanian animal shelter. She had 4 puppies at the time. Sandra loves people and being stroked. When a human comes near her, she demands to be petted by barking softly and friendly. The dog is friendly and can also live well with other dogs. Long walks are a highlight for her and she always loves to be in the centre of the action.
Tavi – is an eight-year-old male dog from a shelter near Bucharest. The male dog has a stable, good-natured, friendly character and loves being with other dogs. Like Sandra, Tavi is also people-friendly and loves cuddles, which should ideally never stop. He is used to being on a lead and is generally a very obedient male with eyes that ask “When will you come and get me?”.
John – is an approximately eight-year-old male dog who was found in a field near the Gut Aiderbichl dog sanctuary. He had probably been abandoned and needed the help of our staff to survive. He is also a very pleasant, loving, well-socialised male dog who would like a secure foster home for life.
Havana – is a wonderful, cuddly bitch with a grey-black coat. This lively dog is now nine years old and is still looking for a loving person to whom she can be loyal.
Erika – Erika is a six-year-old mixed-breed dog with a white and black coat. Erika is a loving, well-socialised dog who is waiting for a person she can faithfully accompany for the next few years.
The four-legged friends Bakii, Sandra, Tavi, John, Havana and Erika are hoping for a two-legged friend who will be their loyal and friendly companion for the next few years.
Maybe youfind the one or other puppy dog eyes of our seniors irresistible and have already locked him or her in your heart?
Sincerely, Your Gisela.
