Rosie the cat suffered from high blood pressure
and needs her medication on time
The grey tabby cat Rosie became ill. She suffered from high blood pressure, which also affected her eyesight. From the time she was diagnosed, Rosie had to receive her blood pressure medication regularly and on time for the rest of her life. Due to time constraints, administering the medication is not feasible for Rosie’s humans, and so this was requested, the approximately 15-year-old cat Rosie to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
Symptoms and consequences of high blood pressure in cats
Causes of high blood pressure in cats can be renal insufficiency, hyperthyroidism or diabetes mellitus. All three diagnoses cause the cat’s blood pressure to rise. Sometimes the affected cat shows behavioural changes, such as poor eating behaviour, weight loss, more frequent meowing than usual, or unsteady walking.
High blood pressure in cats is a warning sign and must be taken seriously. Older cats over the age of seven in particular often have high blood pressure, which is usually caused by serious illnesses. Regular blood pressure checks are therefore a responsible preventative measure for cats too.
High blood pressure puts a strain on the cat’s heart and also increases the risk of blood vessels rupturing and bleeding. Damage to the retina of the cat’s eyes is also typical, and sudden blindness in cats can be linked to high blood pressure.
Rosie's blood pressure stabilises
When Rosie was admitted, her eyes were bloodshot due to high blood pressure. Since taking the prescribed medication regularly, Rosie’s blood pressure has stabilised positively and the condition of her eyes has also improved greatly.
At the moment, our new velvet paw lives together with Angelo and Aura in a cosy room right next to the large cat living room. Rosie has settled in well over the past few weeks, likes her carers and also enjoys being close to Angelo and Aura.
Angelo is a white male cat who is chipped but not registered. He was very thin when he was found – Angelo is slowly gaining a belly. Aura is also a foundling cat and her owners could not be traced. She has been neutered and the three new friends will be able to move into the big cat living room in the foreseeable future. So once again we can say: all’s well that ends well.
I have never found love for people where there was no love for animals. Anyone who truly respects life also respects the animal, because life was given to both of us by God.
