Shepherd dog Jimmy
escaped death at the last second
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
Jimmy escaped death at the last second because the vet said “no” to euthanising the young, healthy dog.
The owner took Jimmy to the veterinary clinic to have him euthanised. Not because Jimmy was terminally ill and in pain, not because he was old. He was to be euthanised because he had wet the house. The veterinary clinic called Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf immediately and urgently requested that Jimmy be put down. He was thoroughly examined beforehand. He seemed to be perfectly healthy. However, Jimmy’s coat was so unkempt and matted that it had to be shaved off from his hips to the centre of his spine.
Take two minutes to think with me ...
It’s about humanity for animals. Animals are not things. They are fellow creatures and we are responsible for them. But how do we behave? Thousands of rescued animals have found a new home at Gut Aiderbichl. How inhumane and cynical is our treatment of life? The way we treat animals is the same way we treat people in an emergency. We tell the fates of the rescued animals. We don’t always tell “nice” stories. We always want to signalise hope: We will soon make things better, because there is hope.
Animals are defenceless, they don’t shoot back, they don’t lock us up, they don’t let us slaughter them. They are not indifferent or cynical. You can recognise the state of a society in the way it treats animals. Whether it still has values such as tolerance, responsibility and love of neighbour. On the globe there are oceans, vegetation, living creatures such as animals and humans. We are all one.
Jimmy is just getting to know happiness and love
Jimmy is just learning about happiness and love
Jimmy’s bleak life takes a new turn at Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia. Markus, the estate manager, and his staff approach Jimmy’s soul gently, sensitively and, above all, with a lot of love. Jimmy gets the attention he has not received in the last five years. He squeals with delight when the carers come with food, when they groom his fur, play or cuddle with him, or go for long walks with their new protégé.
Jimmy may sometimes be a little impetuous, but he is very eager to learn and gets on well with other dogs.
He is so grateful for every stroke he gets. For friendly words, then he holds his head attentively to the side and listens. Jimmy has been with us for a few weeks now and we have the impression that he is even starting to smile. His eyes are shining, he is very attentive and loves us humans. Once again, an animal shows us that no matter what happens to him, he is always ready to forgive people.
Jimmy in new splendour
His coat has almost grown back and is shiny, his eyes are sparkling and his joyful squeak is proof of his zest for life. He deserves a person or a family who will love him and take him in as a member of the family. Jimmy can’t pay any money for this. Your love will be rewarded with affection and joy and the most loyal dog eyes in the world.
The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be measured by how it treats its animals.
– Mahatma Gandhi
Jimmy needs the contact, encouragement and guidance of an animal-loving person.
Sincerely,
Yours, Gisela
