"Spatzal"
bleats in a new herd of goats
Goats are among the oldest domestic animals used for economic purposes. Around 10,000 years ago, the frugal, adaptable goat was domesticated and was long regarded as the “little man’s dairy cow”.
Spatzal ran and lived in a flock of sheep for two years. This flock of sheep had to be given away, but Spatzal could not go with them.
Since being castrated, Spatzal lost more and more of his fur and was also treated by a vet. Unfortunately, nobody knew why Spatzal was losing his fur. His general state of health is excellent, but he just doesn’t look so “beautiful”.
The former owners called him “Spatz”, and he was described as a sweet, trusting and bright chap.
"Spatzal" feels at home
Michael, estate manager in Eslarn, says “Spatzal has settled in really well. He is healthy. The beauty thing, yes, that’s relative. The fur will come back. The important thing is that Spatzal is doing well!”.
“Spatzal” is a very curious and clever goat. He wants to know everything and follows Michael almost everywhere. He often runs nimbly and cheerfully to the sheep and perhaps remembers the flock of sheep in which he grew up.
Lonely has become Spatz's good friend
Lonely has been living with Michael in Eslarn for six years now. She is no longer alone and lonely – quite the opposite. She really likes life in the goat herd in Eslarn, especially because she has so many other goats to run, play and cuddle with.
Lonely was abandoned a few years ago. It was early in the morning and the Aiderbichler goats were just being led out to pasture. There was a strange goat tethered to the fence. Next to her was a cardboard box weighted down with a log. It was bleating miserably and quietly from the cardboard box. Two newborn kids were bleating for help.
Exposed goats – the things that can happen. The two kids were christened Melody and Milou and could now be in the warm barn with mum Lonely or out in the pasture with the other goats.
The owner could not be traced because Lonely and her two babies had no ear tags.
There is nothing that does not exist
Spatzal has found a new friend of the heart, the beautiful Lonely. He enjoys his life in the large goat family of the Aiderbichler goats in Eslarn.
He is always drawn back to the sheep, but then he hears Lonely “calling” and turns back.
The joys of life are learnt from animals.
