Due to the death of the owner
life became a hullabaloo for 10 cats
One of Gut Aiderbichl’s goals is to help animals that lose their owners due to illness, financial hardship or other distressing events.
It is also important to help animals that live with people who are unable to provide them with species-appropriate care, meaning that the animals have to live in a neglected environment.
The owner had passed away and the flatmates are mentally and physically unable to care for the large family of cats
Gut Aiderbichl Osnabrück was contacted via the veterinary office. The cats were neglected and poorly cared for, the office reported. The flatmates are now housed in an assisted living centre. For the welfare of the animals, the authorities decided to find a suitable home for the cats. It was feared that the cats would have fared even worse in their new environment, in the sheltered housing environment, or that they would even be abandoned.
Everything was thrown off course for humans and animals – neither humans nor animals can be expected to live in such dire circumstances. The worst thing is that the cats suffered immensely, but had obviously been living in the situation – the Tohuwabhohu – for a long time.
Keeping pets - what is neglect? - What is a criminal offence?
Human tragedies can never be ruled out. Here again, it is important to look and not look away. In this case, both the people and the animals were helped – the suffering will certainly be turned back into a good life situation for people and animals.
When pets are neglected, it not only has catastrophic consequences for the animal, but can also be dangerous for humans. What are the authorities doing to help animals in need? Reports of abuses regarding private animal husbandry come from the public, the police, etc. If a case is reported, the authorities are obliged to investigate it. The veterinary office begins with an inspection. Depending on the severity of the neglect, the necessary measures are then taken. It may not be about punishment, but about the welfare of the animal. In this case of the 10 cats, there was no other solution than to find the animals a new forever home.
How are Emma, Felix, Hugo, Kira, Lexia, Marie, Moritz, Nora, Susi and Tobi?
In Osnabrück, Anita and Klaus have created wonderful rooms for the 10 kittens: there are small carpets, little chairs, a huge scratching post, lots of cosy cushions to lie on and sleep on, clean food bowls filled with healthy food, etc.
On arrival, Emma, Felix, Hugo, Kira, Lexia, Marie, Moritz, Nora, Susi and Tobi underwent a veterinary health check. Everything went very patiently and lovingly.
The cats were neutered and some were chipped. All 10 cats showed extremely shy behaviour towards humans.
Slowly, Emma, Felix, Hugo, Kira, Lexia, Marie, Moritz, Nora, Susi and Tobi seem to feel that something is changing in their lives: there is peace, cleanliness, cosiness, enough good food and loving people who patiently try to win the cats’ hearts.
When the trust towards humans is restored, we will try to place the beautiful velvet paws with animal-loving people.
Animals are free beings. They freely offer us their love ... their friendship ... their help ... their trust. We can learn a lot from them if we start to see all the things they have over us.
