The Persian cat Dreamy was looking for a home ...
... for a cat in need of care
Dreamy’s life was suddenly no longer so dreamy. Darkness spread: her eyes had to be operated on and her owner had passed away.
Animals are fellow creatures and suffer and rejoice just like humans – only their language is different. So it is important to give animals a voice so that as many people as possible can recognise what is going on with their beloved cat, for example.
There are care homes for people, so why not for animals too?
Gut Aiderbichl has had a special home for cats in need of care since 2012. When you have as many velvet paws as Gut Aiderbichl, you naturally have to think about which facility is the right place for a newly adopted cat: we have young cats, old cats, healthy cats, cats with disabilities and also blind cats.
The flat was too small for two blind cats
Dreamy had to live in the son’s bedroom a few months ago after her owner died. There was already a 12-year-old blind cat in the household, but the two cats didn’t want to become friends. The last resort would have been to put Dreamy to sleep.
The nature of the Persian cat is actually cosy and gentle
In the 17th century, the Persian cat was imported to Europe from the Turkish-Persian region and lived here mainly in aristocratic courts. Targeted breeding began in the late 19th century. Due to a breeding fashion trend, the Persian cat’s face became shorter and shorter, so that it also had to struggle with health problems.
The eyes are a very sensitive part of the Persian cat’s face. The tear ducts, which have been narrowed by breeding, unfortunately make the beautiful cat’s eyes water a lot. The eyes must be cleaned daily to prevent the cat from developing serious eye diseases. We will never be able to find out why Dreamy’s eyes had to be operated on.
In general, grooming a Persian cat is time-consuming. Their long hair has to be detangled daily and brushed carefully but thoroughly, otherwise the silky coat becomes completely matted within a very short time. The sensitive Persian cat finds the tangles in its coat very unpleasant.
The solution for Dreamy was Gut Aiderbichl Traisen
In this former hotel with an adjoining garden, we have wonderful opportunities to offer a comfortable life to elderly and chronically ill cats. The cuddly tigers live together in small individual groups. They also have balconies and terraces at their disposal. If a cat needs to live alone due to its illness, we can also offer it this.
Eleven-year-old Dreamy has been living there for a few weeks. She seems to have settled in well in Traisen. There is a lot of peace and quiet here, plenty of exercise, a few friends, lots of care and love.
Nevertheless, Dreamy seems to be longing for a loved one who would like to take her in. Her blindness has made her even more sensitive and she would like a nice, cosy, cuddly home.
