Wart duck Frieda
in search of a duck family
Frieda was given away because the partner duck had died and the owners did not want to buy another duck. Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf still had a free place in the duck and goose houses at the small pond near the deer enclosure.
The mallard is a robust animal, it is hardy and knows what it wants. Ducks and geese are said to be always quacking and the loud quacking can go right through your spine.
"I do not chatter. I'm a wart duck and I don't chatter. I don't quack either. When my partner passed away, I was even quieter than usual. Yes, I Frieda, a wart duck, am grieving too", Frieda says confidently.
Frieda has been living in the second house of the duck and goose houses by the small pond for a few months now. She has settled in well, and sometimes waddles around the yard alone or in company.
"But there is also so much to see here and also to learn. For example, I learned that I don't have to be afraid of dogs here. People come here, they have dogs on a leash. Even before a dog might catch me, I'm already gone. I am a smart wart duck. You should also know that not a single duck or goose in this world is stupid. You humans sometimes call each other "stupid goose". Can't understand. As I said, we are not stupid and go through our lives smartly and with our heads held high!".
Frieda has found a particularly good friend in our Cinderella, who is a curly goose and also lives in the wooden houses by the pond.
"Frieda was sad when she was surrendered. At first she waddled around alone, and at some point I "chattered" at her. We curly geese are very good at chattering. Since she's been here, we've been foraging together every day for our grasses, herbs in the front yard of the Man-Animal Chapel, and bugs and worms. We get along very well. It's nice that Frieda is here!".
There are very interesting friendships among the animals living on the farms of Gut Aiderbichl. For example, Frieda has now also become a friend of the Austro-Hungarian baroque donkeys, thanks to Cinderella.
These Baroque donkeys - Sophie and her foal Andi and Emely - came to Gut Aiderbichl together with the Curly Geese from Burgenland.
Cinderella tells Frieda "The owner of curly geese and the baroque donkey was terminated the lease in Burgenland on the border with Hungary. We were all very sad at that time and the woman cried terribly when she had to give us up. But as you can see, Frieda, everything will be fine here. I want to be your friend as long as we live!".
Frieda has her friend and many other animals to waddle around the yard with. If you are looking for Frieda: her feathers from head to chest are snow white. The back is black running down to the tail feathers and also shows a few white feathers on the left and right. Let's wish her a long, healthy life together with Cinderella and all the other rescued animals from Gut Aiderbichl.
