Goat Samu
A life in an aluminum hut with a chain around the neck
In a small village, near the home farm Gut Aiderbichl Szépalma, Hungary, lived the approximately five-year-old Samu, a noble goat with brown-black fur.
From the beginning, the owner did not really want the goat. He had received him as a gift from a neighbor, after her husband had died.
A woman in the neighborhood had seen a television program about Gut Aiderbichl and spontaneously decided to report the goat's living situation to the staff of Gut Aiderbichl Hungary.
A life in an aluminum shed with a chain around the neck
The employees of Gut Aiderbichl were almost breathless when they found the goat. Alone and with a chain around his neck - how must Samu have felt? The chain was already ingrown and Samu had painful wounds in these places.. He looked at the people as if he wanted to say: "Thank God you are here, get me out of here ...".
As food there was no hay, but probably dry bread. Many goat farmers feed their animals fruit and vegetable scraps, or a slice of dry bread. This type of feeding should be given as a small amount of treat, but never as the main feed. It is not a problem for a goat to get dry bread now and then, provided it is always dry. The smallest slice of moist bread can cause terrible poisoning.
The digestive system of the goat is highly complicated and sensitive. In husbandry, goats are usually given raw fiber and, in addition, a special feed mixture that is adapted to their needs. Goats especially love foliage, brushwood and bark, in which they also find mineral salts and trace elements. Samus owner should have been very little or not interested in all this.
Alcohol endangers the health of the owner and at the same time the healthy attitude of the animals
Samu's owner is an alcoholic. Behind many rescued animals that live on the animal homes of Gut Aiderbichl, human fates are hidden again and again. The really bad thing is that Samu could not defend himself against the chain and the food that was not appropriate for his species. What could be worse than being at the mercy?
At the estate Aiderbichl transporter, Samu immediately got to work on the hay and ate with relish to himself.
Do goats have feelings?
Goats sense the feelings of conspecifics and express their own feelings through their bleating. Samu will probably have heard no one.
However, someone must have noticed that there is a goat bleating in the neighborhood, but that it is hardly ever seen. This person called the administration of Gut Aiderbichl Hungary and asked if we could help the goat Samu. After the owner had always refused Samu, it was not a big problem to turn Samu into an Aiderbichl goat.
In Samu's case, I guess:
Those who do not respect the dignity of animals cannot take it away from them, but they lose their own.
Samu feels good in his new home. He enjoys his freedom, the conspecifics, the good food and the many human cuddles.
