A total of 11 guinea pigs wwere rescued from bad keeping beenthree of them had been in the care of Gut Aiderbichl four of them came to their forever home at Gut Aiderbichl. Aiderbichl Deggendorf, and the remaining four little animals remained in the family, which had rescued the small cheeky badgers. The animals received fresh food every day and the costs for this were beyond the financial scope of the animal-loving people for the large number of guinea pigs.
Guinea pigs - what is their function in the system nature?
Spanish seafarers brought the animals across the sea to Europe. The oldest finds that can be attributed to guinea pigs come from the northern central highlands of Peru and from the coastal plain of Ecuador. For more than 4000 years, guinea pigs have been considered a delicacy in the Andean region.
Children love the small, robust and curious guinea pigs. However, when keeping them, it must be remembered that guinea pigs cannot live alone and should be kept at least in pairs, because they would suffer from loneliness. Human cuddles and company are no substitute for conspecifics.
Guinea pigs, like mice, are used as laboratory animals. Guinea pigs are kept in experimental laboratories for medical tests, to research stress and social behavior, or to test new active substances in medicine. A large number of the fuzzy little animals are kept in zoos and animal parks as food animals for a wide variety of predators and birds of prey, as well as for snakes.
Pittyplatsch
A rosette guinea pig with funny hairstyle
If you look at the pretty white-brown Pittyplatsch, you will notice his idiosyncratic hair. The firmly structured fur grows in swirls on its body. The rosette guinea pig can have eight to ten such fur swirls: four on the body and two each on the hips and hindquarters. The rosette guinea pig originally comes from the area of today's Ethiopia in Africa.
Pittyplatsch not only looks funny, he also impresses with his friendly and lively nature. He knows what he wants - and he shows it to his humans. Pittyplatsch is very lively and affectionate at the same time - petting is great, but never against the direction of growth of the fur hair - this makes Pittyplatsch unfriendly and he nips.
Pina and Schocko
Two smooth hair - guinea pigs
Smooth-haired guinea pigs are probably the most popular guinea pig breed. The coat is short, smooth, very dense and close fitting, there are no swirls, no bangs, no curls and no whiskers. So grooming is particularly easy and takes little time. If necessary, comb Pina and Schocko with a brush or comb - done.
Pina is white-black on the body and brown on the back, Schocko is black and white, Mary is black, brown with a little white. Mary's hair is long, and is also, similar to Pittyplatsch , combed regularly. All of them have in common that they are bright, curious, sociable, social and happy animals, and enrich the "Deggendorfer Guinea Pig Gang" very much. All of them are looking forward to your visit!
