David was born in an experimental laboratory, but fortunately he was never used in research. His father died in the lab, and his mother Schuscha was unable to breastfeed him - possibly due to an untreated inflammation. Schuscha was especially nurturing to David, yet his caregiver at the time had to bottle-feed him at home for several months. Already in 2000, before the chimpanzees moved to the ape facility in Gänserndorf, he took part in a resocialization program in rooms of the experimental laboratory. Provisionally, connections between four isolation cages were opened. This allowed him to live with his mother and his sister Xsara. He is considered the so-called discoverer of the group, is curious and brave. Most of the time he is the first one when it comes to face new challenges. He is especially skilled in the use of tools. David always makes a great effort with the ladies. He is especially fond of Bonnie and Helene. He loves to groom them both, thus cementing the relationship over and over again. He also willingly shares his food with the others. David is still in the puberty. He likes to provoke now and then, but is tolerated by Anton and Moritz, who show understanding for the adolescent. David loves to play "chase" with Moritz in the outdoor enclosure and is always one of the first when the doors to the outside are opened.
