As a wild animal, she was snatched from her family and mother and was sent to the pound in 1986. From then on she lived isolated in a cage. In 1995, she was force-fed to a male and gave birth to Alfred in 1996 as a captive in the experimental lab. When Alfred died in 2012, the whole group mourned for weeks. Helene has a long-standing friendship with Bonnie. With regard to Moritz, Helene likes to act reserved and provokes him by ignoring him, which often infuriates Moritz. Helene is the highest ranking female in the group. She had to learn to deal with the male's imposition behavior. She likes to dig up the bamboo sticks in the outdoor enclosures and bring them into the living area. She loves celery more than anything and loudly demands bananas for herself, too, when she sees that the males get some in addition.
