At the age of 8, Ikarus received a serious diagnosis: unrideable due to kissing spines. This is a disease of the back in which the spinous processes of the spine are so close together that they touch each other painfully during movement. It is therefore uninteresting for sport. Many owners then turn away from their horses, seeing them only as sports equipment and not as sentient living beings. The owners of Ikarus wanted to have him put down if we did not give him shelter at Gut Aiderbichl. For Ikarus' sake, we agreed to take him in and now he can live a beautiful horse life with loving care until the natural end of his life.
