The hard work cost the cold-blooded wallach all his strength. As a packhorse, Robinson pulled huge tree trunks across the forest floor. But his massive body was obviously not up to the enormous strain. Robinson developed laminitis. This is a very painful inflammation of the hoof corium. What happens to a working horse that can no longer work is obvious. Fortunately, Robinson was spared this last course, because he was allowed to become part of our family. By taking him in, we gave the promise to always take care of him and to offer him a life appropriate to his species.
