We discovered the affectionate Shirkan at a foal market in Rottenbuch and bought him free. At that time, 10 other so-called weanlings came along. Weanlings are foals that are "ready" to be separated from their mother because they no longer need to be fed with milk. This usually happens at the earliest in the 6th month of life. Shirkan was also at this age when he saw his mother for the last time - a traumatic experience for any foal. But Shirkan was lucky: they became part of our family that day and never experience pressure or beatings!
