What happens to my pet when I am no longer there?

Even at a young age, Michael Aufhauser realised that everything could be different tomorrow, that misfortune and death are part of life. He didn’t have any animal property for a long time, but he already had animals whose future he was worried about if the worst came to the worst. He looked for people to whom he could entrust and who would make good use of the money deposited for their care. But he found no one.

Once he had founded Gut Aiderbichl and many animals were entrusted to him, he remembered his earlier worries. So he created the possibility of a provision for animals and now offers all animal owners out of conviction what he missed so painfully back then. They can all see for themselves in advance that their animals will find a loving home and receive professional care in an emergency.

The Gut Aiderbichl provision programme

We obtain detailed information about the animals’ habits so that we can also gently organise the separation phase from their masters and mistresses for each special case. Our pet carers are trained and experienced, and we guarantee that the funding provided is used for the quality of life of the animals that are handed over to us with confidence. There is absolute transparency about this, and we are also available for discussions. From the very beginning, Michael Aufhauser’s aim was to treat these animals as if they were his own, and he wanted to take care of them.

Prevention is followed by care – with the warmth of home.

Our animals are our companions. Let's make sure that they can continue to live happily even when we can no longer care for them.

Michael Aufhauser, founder of Gut Aiderbichl

Prerequisites for our animal provision

  • Whether with or without disabilities – any animal can be admitted to the animal care centre and will be lovingly cared for by our experienced animal carers according to your irrefutable principles.
  • Gut Aiderbichl is transparent. Bereaved animals are welcome to visit us at our Animal Visitor Centres on a daily basis and at the animal homes as part of a sponsored meeting or by appointment at our administration office.
  • As a general rule, if you own one or more pets, you have taken responsibility for living creatures that are in need of protection. Therefore, care is essential. Ideally, it should take place in a personal environment, so that your pets don’t have to go through the potentially stressful familiarisation process. If you don’t have anyone, Gut Aiderbichl’s animal provision is the ideal alternative.

As all pets live with us as if they were in private care, their care is extremely cost-intensive. In addition to food, treats, vets, cat litter, etc., we also have to calculate the salaries for our carers and, of course, the lovingly furnished accommodation as well as the outdoor dog runs and the enclosures for cats and other small animals.

The most important questions about animal care

Which animals can find a home on our farms through the animal provision programme?

Our animal welfare community is home to a large number of animal species that feel more than at home on our farms. In addition to cats, dogs, birds and horses, there are many other domestic, farm and wild animals, from alpacas and llamas to donkeys, mules, sheep and goats. Ducks, geese, chickens and turkeys, as well as parrots, peacocks and even swans have found a home at Gut Aiderbichl. There are many different animal species that can enrich a person’s life. Feel free to ask us if you are not sure whether animal welfare is possible in your case.

Can I decide which farm my animal will live on?

In addition to the three well-known animal sanctuaries in Henndorf, Deggendorf and Iffeldorf, the Gut Aiderbichl animal welfare association also runs a large number of sanctuaries throughout Europe, some of which specialise in one type of animal. For example, there is a country hotel in Traisen
in Austria, for example, there is a country hotel that has been converted into a real cat paradise. In 2019, the Ballermann Ranch in Lower Saxony became a spacious sanctuary for many Gut Aiderbichler ponies and horses. We are happy to try to accommodate your wishes. However, you can always be sure that our decisions are always 100% in the best interests of your animal.

I have several animals. Are they separated?

When we take in new animals, we always try to take the animals’ habits into account. If animals are firmly attached to each other and also have to cope with the loss of their owner, they are not separated under any circumstances. If they are animals of the same species, staying together is no problem at all. But even in the case of different animal species, we avoid separation wherever possible. On our farms, too, a wide variety of animals are always on friendly terms with each other.

Does my pet have a permanent carer?

Animals are intelligent and sensitive creatures. And each one has its very own character, its own personality. This is also the reason why animals usually choose their own carer – or pet. Even if no animal is favoured, the animals form bonds with their carers. Most of our carers are long-term employees who look after each of “their” animals as if it were their own. However, with dogs in particular, it is possible that the animal may prefer individual, personal accommodation to life on the farm. Such animals are then given a so-called “special care place” by Gut Aiderbichl with a person who will look after the animal from then on. However, the animal is still under the protection of Gut Aiderbichl.

When the time comes: How will Gut Aiderbichl be informed?

If you have concluded an animal care contract with Gut Aiderbichl, you will receive two so-called “emergency cards” from us. The larger one should be clearly visible in your home, ideally in your entrance area. The other should be kept in your wallet. In addition to the name of your animal and the emergency numbers of Gut Aiderbichl Animal Welfare, these cards clearly state that the animal is under the protection of Gut Aiderbichl and must not be taken to an animal shelter under any circumstances. We guarantee to collect the animal within 24 hours.

How much does Gut Aiderbichl's animal provision cost?

The costs of animal care are based on daily rates that we have set based on our many years of experience. These calculations include the loving care provided by our team of animal carers, species-appropriate accommodation, expert assistance from our vets and high-quality food. We will be happy to provide you with more detailed information in a personal meeting with Mrs Holde Sudenn.
