Workshop for practitioners

animal husbandry, animal welfare, animal training and animal-assisted therapy.

31.05.2024

The interdisciplinary research project ARED (Agency, Rationality and Epistemic Defeat) cordially invites you to a workshop for practitioners in the fields of animal husbandry, animal welfare, animal training and animal-assisted therapy.

The ARED research project is being carried out by a team of philosophers, developmental psychologists and cognitive biologists from the University of Stirling (UK) and the Messerli Research Institute of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. The aim of the project is to better understand the connection between cognition and rationality between humans and animals. In particular, ARED is investigating the basic forms of rational thinking in preverbal children and animals, in this case dogs and pigs. (For more information on the project, visit our website: https://ared.stir.ac.uk/.)

The workshop for practitioners aims to promote an informative exchange between practitioners, scientists and philosophers. In addition to the ARED team, representatives of various organizations will present their work with, on or for animals in this workshop. Topics such as the mental and emotional world of animals will be discussed, as well as animal training approaches and welfare issues.
