Exactly what every farmer fears happened to the owner of Cosima and her conspecifics: The cattle shed went up in flames and almost everything inside fell victim to the fire. 125 dairy cows died in agony in the flames and only seven were able to escape from the building. Cosima was lucky, but the farmer faced ruin. A neighboring farmer was able to provide temporary shelter for the injured animals. When we heard about this, we offered the farmer our help and bought the last seven free.
