Kodi lived until recently as a street dog in a village near our shelter. The young dog lived there together with three other dogs in a small pack. One day dog catchers came to the village and caught all the dogs they could catch on the street. Kodi and her three companions were also caught on that fateful day. The four dogs were sent to a shelter that takes care of the animals but puts them to sleep after a period of time (sometimes 14 days - sometimes a few weeks) if they are not picked up. When we heard this we contacted the shelter and bought the dogs free.
Character:
Kodi behaves towards his caregivers, especially our shelter management, trusting and affectionate. Even if he sometimes still keeps a certain distance.
However, people who are strangers to him, especially men, are barked and growled at by him - through the fence.
If such a person then goes to him, the young dog then reacts rather shyly and not at all aggressively.
Kodi has all the facilities to integrate well into a home, but it must be worked with professionally.
Behavior:
- Adults: accessible with caregivers/ suspicious with strangers.
- Children: not tested
- Cats: not tested
- Conspecifics: well tolerated
Health:
- Diet: dry food
- Vaccination: rabies, SHPPI
- Parasites: Bravecto, Ivermectin
- Castration: yes
- Blood test: yes
- Chipped and registered
We are looking for:
A dog-savvy home that can and will work on Kodi's insecurity with professional support.
