Leona belongs to the breed of "aurochs", which is rather a backbreeding, because the real original cattle, from which more than 500 breeds are descended, have long since been wiped out by man. When we heard about a 17-headed herd of aurochs that were to be slaughtered, we wanted to help, because even today this wonderful breed is threatened with extinction. At Gut Aiderbichl, Leona was then born, but her mother had abandoned her and did not take care of the little calf. Our keepers took over this task and raised her. Unfortunately, she is quite a bit smaller than her peers, but that doesn't bother us - we love her anyway.
