A farmer's family had been given little Maxl as a foal and raised him lovingly. But as he grew older, they despaired of the mini-shetty. Maxl kept escaping from the farm and joining the other horses in the neighbourhood. No fence, nothing could stop him. But then his owners lost patience. When he was once again brought back to the farm by an animal lover, his death sentence had already been passed. Maxl was to be sent to the slaughterhouse, because no one was willing to take in the pony wallach, who suffered from a deformity of his hind legs. The animal lover pulled out all the stops to save Maxl and shortly before his ultimatum expired, we were able to say yes.
