Farewell to Jaqui

An angel on four legs

Our donkey Jaqui came to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf in 2010. Her life story is a long and difficult one full of suffering and sadness. Her last owners had taken her in because they wanted to help her and had a donkey of their own, Mucko. Mucko became the love of her donkey's life until he died, leaving a deeply sad, suffering Jaqui behind. At some point, she could no longer stay with her owners either and was brought to Gut Aiderbichl.

Jaqui lived with her friend "Little Lilly" and with Charly for the last few years. Batis lived there until four years ago and she fell asleep forever on Christmas Eve a few years ago. Jaqui stood stunned by her friend at the time. She suffered and was incredibly sad that her best friend didn't get up anymore.

After the death of her partner donkey, Batis was at times grim, sad and dismissive of people and her conspecifics. At one point, she could be seen putting her head on Jaqui's back. This was supposed to mean "I like you very much thank you for giving me strength!". Batis became calmer and more balanced through her friendship with Jaqui. They became inseparable donkey friends who supported each other.

Jaqui's secret love

In Jaqui's life there was a secret love: Charly, who was very similar to her Mucko. Charly, however, was the boyfriend of "Little Lilly" and Jaqui accepted this with gentle reserve. But she liked him very much. Jaqui was like a princess: delicate and fragile, reserved, elegant and sometimes aloof. Her eyes tried to speak to the world, but few people recognised that. They had a special depth and gentleness that you could only understand if you looked with your heart.

She was already an angel when she was still on earth

After the death of her friend Batis, Jaqui did her rounds alone. The circles at court became smaller and smaller, she preferred to stand in the sun against the wall of the great hall. Gentle, fragile and reserved. Somehow she was like an angel even when she was alive. When you stood next to her, problems, grief and sadness disappeared. If you were sad, you were allowed to get close to her. She felt people's feelings and was anything but a stupid donkey.

When she came to Aiderbichl, she already had severe laminitis and she was diabetic. Because of problems with her uterus, Jaqui had to go to the veterinary clinic a few days ago, from where she never came home.

Everything has its time: meeting and understanding, holding and loving, letting go and remembering. (Exupéry)

Dear Jaqui,
we will miss your "Yoo-hoo..." when we come into the donkey pen with the food bowls. You never called "Iah", but always "Yoo-hoo", holding your head a little crooked and smiling. We will miss your restraint. You took your secrets with you to donkey heaven. We let you go and will never forget you. A place will be reserved for your soul next to Charly and "Little Lilly".
