Obituary pony Daisy and horse Goldika

At some point, we can no longer help the animal ...

For over 20 years, Gut Aiderbichl has been at the service of animals who, for a variety of reasons, are looking for a new forever home. For just as long, the staff at Gut Aiderbichl suffer when an animal dies - whether for reasons of age, or through redemption with the help of euthanasia.

Daisy, a twenty-year-old pony, was discovered with extremely outgrown hooves and in a generally very neglected condition by an animal-loving lady in a meadow next to a children's playground in Austria. The previous owners did not have much idea about what a pony needs to be healthy. A meadow to live on is unfortunately not enough. For years, Daisy must not have received any hoof care. The hooves were extremely outgrown and that means hellish pain for the animal.

The new owner handed Daisy over to us with one laughing and one crying eye. She knew that we would try everything to ease Daisy's pain. Daisy was sad and needed some time before she gave us the chance to accept the offered help. Everyone helped together: the vets, the groomers and the farrier - there was a lot to do. In the beginning, Daisy kept lying down and you had to assume she was in pain.
Then, all of a sudden, she liked the great hoof shoes and Daisy walked around the yard with her friend Gina, enjoying the sun and stopping briefly when you wanted to pet her. Slowly, but surely, Daisy seemed to gain trust in people. We thought and hoped that we were getting her health more and more under control. But Daisy's diseased hooves forced her to lie down in the straw more and more often. She showed us more and more that she had no more strength, until one day, in the presence of her keepers, she slowly, perhaps gratefully, closed her eyes forever.

With two other horses Goldika had come years ago to a lady who wanted to save the horses. Goldika, a beautiful Trakener mare of 21 years, had come to Gut Aiderbichl from Allgäu in 2007.
Goldika led a contented horse life in her group and was just grateful not to have to do anything, to get her feed, to have a clean stable and to be allowed to run on the beautiful, wide pastures of Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf for many weeks of the year.

Last fall Goldika had to go to the clinic because of a broken molar. Everything went well, but Goldika started to cough. Various examinations were performed and Goldika was given the best medications and therapies to get well again. The doctors who were called in tried everything to help our Goldika. But Goldika decided to give us a signal: I don't like to eat anymore. So our girl became more and more tired and weaker. She degraded and one day she also did not want to leave the stable. Goldika wanted to say goodbye to her humans, and so we were with her until she reached the step of the Rainbow Bridge, and the light of the life candle went out.

There are situations, where we have to accept that no medicine and no therapy will be accepted anymore.
There are moments when we humans have to accept that the will of the animal to be allowed to fall asleep is stronger than our attempt to perhaps still test a therapy or a drug.
There is the last moment where we say goodbye, and where we know, now we have to let go, and release the soul.
There is the situation where the person is then simply allowed to cry.

Dear Daisy, Dear Goldika,

it was painful to feel that nothing and no one could help to keep you with us. Do not forget us and look down from your new paradise from time to time - on the green meadows of Gut Aiderbichl.

Take care, dear Daisy and Goldika

"The Rainbow Bridge is a new place for you, full of joy and timelessness, even if that means it's now time to say goodbye. If my love found a way to heaven and beautiful memories had steps, I would climb up and bring you back."
