When her mother Mina came to Gut Aiderbichl in 2018, we did not know that the lady Zackel sheep was pregnant. In February, we were surprised with little Agnes. The Hungarian Zackel sheep is believed to have been around for about 5,000 years. Until the 18th century it was considered the predominant breed of sheep in Hungary, but at the time of the monarchy it was also common throughout the Alpine region. It is the last surviving breed of sheep with screw horns. The extremely hardy sheep were originally bred for the milk and meat supply of the Hungarian nomads.
