An animal lover contacted the administration of Gut Aiderbichl. When she told us her story, we were close to tears. She told us that she had learned by chance about two mares that were to go to the slaughterhouse. When she went to have a look at them, the mother mare was lying tied up on the ground, covered with scars and open wounds - the little foal was standing frightened next to her. When asked, the dealer is said to have told her that there was nothing to be done with the two anyway, as they were supposed to come from a blood farm. Without further ado, the animal lover bought the two free and thus saved their lives - but where to? First she found a place to put them and now they both moved to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. But what are blood farms and what happens there? In these facilities mares are brutally abused and exploited - here it is necessary that the mares are pregnant, because only in this time they produce the hormone that the industry is targeting. This is called PMSG for short and is used by European piglet producers - this way the predictability of meat production can be guaranteed (more information about "Animal Welfare Foundation").
