Bernhard, who makes our visitors go into raptures with his beautiful eyes, belongs to a domesticated form of camel, also called alpaca. They are mainly bred for their wool. They are characterised by their calm and peaceful nature, which is why they are also popular in animal-assisted therapy. Around 80 per cent of the world's alpaca population lives in Peru, their home country. Bernhard and his friend Silvia lost their home in Germany. The owner had neglected them so much that the veterinary office felt compelled to confiscate them. Bernhard and Silvia are now safe at Gut Aiderbichl!
