Susi and Jürgen

at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf

It was love at 3rd sight

Where love falls - that also applies to animals. In our pig palace in Henndorf there are two domestic pigs who have intimate feelings for each other. For some time, Susi lived alone on the sun terrace at the Pig Palace and began to love her life again. For some weeks now Jürgen, a former breeding boar, has become her boyfriend.

The dramatic, sad story of Susi

After the seizure, Susi was in an emergency shelter where she received veterinary care. The animal owner had psychological problems and had neglected to take care of Susi's paralysis in her legs.
One day, the keeper's fattening pigs were driven to the slaughterhouse. Susi was not fit to be transported due to her existing lameness. She was left in the pig pen. An official veterinary examination was refused by the owner, even an official notice could not change this catastrophic situation. The last step to rescue Susi was the arrival of the police and a bolt cutter to get Susi out of the locked stall.

Susi was found in a lateral position. Her limbs were lame and she was carefully loaded into a van. Greedily she drank 7 liters of water as fast as she could - due to the pain she had obviously been unable to get to the watering trough.

Susi blossoms to new life and digs enthusiastically in the straw

Veterinary care in the emergency shelter was excellent, she ate apples and pears with preference and played like crazy in the straw, which she had not known until then.
Her health condition improved day by day. However, she could only stay in the shelter for a few weeks and then she would have been taken to the slaughterhouse. How can one understand this now? Susi had got medication. After a certain time, the "traces" of the drugs would have been out of her body again and she would have been driven to the slaughterhouse with high probability.

Jürgen - a sir among pigs, made his home at Gut Aiderbichl

Jürgen, a huge domestic pig weighing 330 kg, has ended his career as a breeding boar. He is now three years old and has had his day. He was too huge for the slaughterhouse, where are slaughtered pigs weighing about 150 kg. In addition, the meat of a breeding boar would have tasted too much like a boar. The alternative would have been to produce animal feed from Jürgen.

Where Jürgen came from, he was a star. He loved children more than anything and let himself be petted and fed. A little girl absolutely did not want Jürgen to go into a sad future. He was trusting, not at all rough with people and somehow he loved his life.

Jürgen's move into Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf

Jürgen's time as a breeding boar is history. The huge, nice, people-friendly pig ran up the dog path on the day of the shooting and refreshed himself in the cool dog bath. Then, it was on to the Pig Palace.

Separated from Susi, he spent the first days there and slept most of the time in his thick straw bed. Now and then, he stuck his trunk to Susi's enclosure, which also approached, but then showed him again the "cold shoulder".

This game was repeated for some time. Jürgen did not give up and now it has been achieved: Jürgen and Susi lie snugly together in the straw bed. His diplomatic, loving character will restore Susi’s wounded soul. Full of patience and calm, he meets his pig princess every day anew with serenity and affection.

We hope and wish that Susi and Jürgen can spend a long, loving, beautiful life together at Gut Aiderbichl.
