For World Dog Day 10.10.2023

From the point of view of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

A dog decides once for the rest of his life. He doesn't ask himself if he really wants to grow old with us. He just does. His love, once we have earned it, is absolute.

~ Pablo Picasso

The dog is a rescue dog, playmate, pastor, laboratory animal - he is as Pablo Picasso describes him. Faithful at the side of man, as long as it should be.

For thousands of years, people have been "on the dog"

The dog is descended from the wolf and the domestication of wild wolves began over 80,000 years ago. Among about 350 different breeds of dogs, people can decide which breed they want to have live with them. So dogs are considered as pets, but also as working animals. Working dogs are trained in special training units for fighting crime, as rescue dogs or as herding dogs.

The dog as a member of the family

The dog and its human can form a team

Not infrequently, a dog should take the place replace a human being. He replaces deceased loved ones, the life partner, he is for many single people the "number of distress", which is called when needed. A dog can listen, he does not discuss, he does not contradict and his loyalty and love is with man as long as he lives.

The dog project of Gut Aiderbichl

There has now been an Aiderbichl Estate in Romania for many years. The starting point for Aiderbichl was over 300 strays living in a fenced-in area with no protection from any weather. They were fed by a woman who did not hesitate to bring buckets of water to the dogs, because there was no well there far and wide.

At that time it was clear to Dieter Ehrengruber "We have to help here!". People in Romania bring their cats and dogs to the Aiderbichler staff for neutering, but things do not get better and more respectful for the animals overnight. Many abandoned adult and sometimes severely injured dogs, as well as unwanted puppies, are left in plastic bags outside the door or thrown over the fence. Our four-legged, Romanian dogs are also placed in due course with people who are not looking for the breed, but for a friend.

When dogs attack people

A big topic is again and again the controversial attitude of so-called "fight dogs". A horrific event in Upper Austria with a fatal outcome for a female jogger st the waves are running high.
In principle, it is probably the case that a dog is not vicious by nature. It is the human being who educates him. This is best done in appropriate dog training courses, but sometimes it can be done on its own.
Why does a dog attack a human being? The dog is an animal, which does not mean that it automatically attacks people. Who knows what makes a dog so far to attack a human being? Either he is trained to do so or something irritates him for a moment? It is fear, insecurity... What is it? You have to observe your animal, learn to interpret the body language. The dog does exactly the same thing: he observes and interprets the body language of the human being and can become a best friend of the human being.

Feel free to visit us at the Gut Aiderbichl Academy for a suitable course on dog training and the like: akademie@gut-aiderbichl.com
Enjoy the day with your four-legged friend. But never forget that he is an animal with its own instincts.

Your thoughtful Gisela
