Cat Speedy
was taken over with an apartment takeover
From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
Speedy is a white-red European shorthair cat and is now over eight years old.
In the course of taking over an apartment, the new resident also took over Speedy, who otherwise would have had to be brought to the shelter. For some time, the coexistence between the human and the cat worked, but at some point Speedy showed aggressive behavior and living together was no longer possible.
Speedy suddenly showed a change of character towards his human
Why does a cat become aggressive? In cats there are different forms of aggression. So, on the one hand, we speak of fear aggression, which can occur due to threat or jealousy. On the other hand, however, the change of nature can also be related to pain, illness, indisposition, metabolic disorders that affect the nervous system of the cat. So-called misdirected aggression also occurs, and it happens when the cat absolutely does not want to be petted.
We don't know what made Speedy show aggression towards his owner after living together for a long time.
The body language of the cat
Aggression, joy, satisfaction, etc. can be read in humans and animals by body language.
Speedy surely signaled his aggression with dilated pupils, a cat hump and with peacocking, showing teeth, etc. It is important to pay attention to the tail: if it is lowered and moves rapidly back and forth, it means fear. If the tail is horizontal and rigid, it may be better to take cover, because the cat signals increased readiness to attack.
Aggression fights among conspecifics
If several cats live in one apartment, aggression of various kinds can also occur at any time. It is important for the owner to remain calm. Raising your voice or refusing the treat will not do any good. Cats are resistant to punishment. After the quarrel among the cats, it is much better to stay calm and show the "quarreler": I am ignoring you for once now. And at the same time you should turn to the peaceful cat. In this way the "Streithansl" should learn that he has not really won with his aggressive behavior - especially not the attention of the owner.
When calm has returned among the cats, it is appropriate to give everyone a reward treat.
If all the tricks do not help, the aggression among the animals remains, a trip to the vet or animal psychologist is called for.
Speedy's aggression has dissipated
Speedy has been living at Gut Aiderbichl Osnabrück for a few weeks and seems to have found his life's happiness there.
There are many conspecifics and Speedy has already found a few heart friends. He has enough freedom of movement, each cat has its own food bowl.
Speedy loves to be stroked by the animal keepers and every time he thanks them for their attention with a loud, never-ending purring concert.
We wish Speedy a happy and joyful cat life at Gut Aiderbichl Osnabrück.
- Sincerely, Yours Gisela
Cats love people much more than they want to admit, but they have enough wisdom to keep it to themselves.
