Benjamin was the first to venture through the large concrete ring into the outdoor enclosure and likes to sit on the grate that is placed above the staff entrance. Benjamin is the only male in the group and had to learn to adapt to the ladies and to respond to each individual chimpanzee. In the beginning, it was not very easy for him to compete against this sworn group of ladies. With his impertinence he tries to be macho with the ladies. However, they are not very impressed and demonstrate to Benjamin how strong they are, especially when they are outnumbered. This usually causes him to retreat quickly - Spätzle then tries to calm him down by hugging him. Benjamin also loves to play with her, while he prefers to work on the raisin board with Denise. He uses his tools with great skill and, if at all possible, prefers his little finger to find even the smallest raisins. Benjamin likes to lean his back while eating and lay out the food in front of him as if on a tray.
