Peppa and her four piglets

A pig family in happiness

Peppa is likely to be a Duroc mix pot-bellied pig. Originally, the Duroc domestic pig comes from the USA and is a cross of red Jersey pigs and European Iberico pigs that is about 250 years old. Peppa is about 1 year old and has given birth to four adorable piglets. They spent their lives sheltered in an old barn until discovered by their young rescuer. A young girl visited the farm regularly for the horses and learned that Peppa and her young were to be slaughtered. She begged her father to help the animals and to contact Gut Aiderbichl.

Katja's family was not allowed to keep pigs in their garden, so she was glad that Dieter Ehrengruber agreed to take in the young pig family. Until the day of pick-up, the animal-loving people fed the freshly-born mum and her miniature babies squealing for milk. The girl longed for the day when the animals were finally loaded into the transporter and thus taken to a safe new home.

From the barn to Gut Aiderbichl

The animal rescuers lured Peppa into a large box with the best treats in the world and carried her into the Aiderbichl animal transporter. The four little piglets looked nervously and insecurely after their mum, and as quickly as possible they tried to catch the pig girls Ginger and Sugar, and the pig boys Vanilla and Spicy, and bring them to their mother. Once again, we were able to experience the fear of loss that animals can have. All was well and the journey towards Henndorf could start.

Family in the Pig Palace

When they arrived at the manor, the bristly inhabitants of the Pig Palace were waiting for the new arrivals. Pigs are known to be highly intelligent and they sensed that something was going on. A large pigsty had been cleaned and thickly lined with fresh straw.

Followed by her rescuers, Peppa and her babies walked into the warm stable, alert, sniffing and squealing. Peppa lay down on the straw and Ginger, Vanilla, Sugar and Spicy snuggled close to their mum's warm belly.

Peppa loves people

Maybe she is just grateful that she and her babies did not have to die? She loves people more than anything. As soon as Peppa hears voices, she straightens up by the stable door and wants to see who is visiting her. Peppa has the sweetest smile in the world and her eyes sparkle with people.
With Peppa, Ginger, Vanilla, Sugar and Spicy, a new, young, rescued happiness has moved into the Pig Palace in Henndorf. Let's wish them a long, healthy and happy life in the free range in their new home at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
