We would like to introduce four
of our new protégés:
Chelone, Bruno, Tito and Leo
Chelone is a Greek tortoise and meanwhile 12 years old. The changed life circumstances of the owner have made a surrender of the beloved Chelone made it absolutely necessary. The separation from Chelone was very difficult for the animal-loving lady, but a species-appropriate place and conspecifics should be Chelone's Chelone's life exciting and safe. So was Chelone end of May last year at a time when the turtles were becoming active again.
Chelone's sounding name has a special meaning and comes from Greek mythology. Hermes one day descended to earth, threw Chelone (male in mythology) with his house into a river and transformed him into a turtle, which always its Dwelling on its back and thus should be condemned to eternal silence. "Khelône" means in Greek "turtle", and at some point became the symbol of silence.
Keeping the light-hungry turtles in a sunny outdoor enclosure is inevitable. The high The animals reach the high age of 80 years only with species-appropriate attitude.
Bruno is already 35 years old, and is a Moorish tortoise. When his owner passed away, he left Bruno and many cats. Moorish tortoises are rather solitary, they feed preferably on plants, insects and also snails.
Leo (female Greek tortoise, 28 years old) and Tito (male Greek tortoise, over 24 years old) were the gift of a grandmother to the grandchildren about 27 years ago. Living conditions changed, the housing situation no longer allowed the turtles to be kept in a species-appropriate manner, and so Leo and Tito were taken in at Gut Aiderbichl about two years ago.
Turtles remember voices and names
Turtles are patient animals. They are quiet, relatively frugal and not at all boring. They recognize their owner. They understand exactly who means well and who does not. And they can also learn to listen to their name. Thus the circle closes again: Animals, also turtles, have a soul and feelings, and they remember voices and their name.
Everyone who works with love and insight has a kind of armor against people's opinions precisely in his sincere love for nature and art. Nature is also strict and, to a certain extent, hard, but it never deceives and always helps forward.
