Corrona and Casimode
Animal confiscation in France
August 2020 - Horses and dogs from a French stud farm are confiscated. The court order was valid and the animals - 103 horses and over 30 dogs - were taken over by animal-loving people. Two of the horses now live at Gut Aiderbichl France near Moulin.
The day of the seizure
What has to happen for animals to be taken away from their owners by court order? How much suffering and agony and how much time passes before animals are taken from hell by attentive people - those who look and do not look away?
It was a muddy, dirty, dark hole where many horses and dogs fought for survival. Here you can no longer use nice, flattering words to argue and explain what it means when animals are at the mercy of humans. From hunger they no longer felt hunger, their wounds were not treated and from pain they no longer felt pain, and from despair and helplessness came resignation.
On the day of the confiscation, which was announced to the owner by court order, he was not at the farm. They found 59 horses on the breeding farm. Where were the rest of the animals? The gendarmerie, many animal rights activists and a transporter from Gut Aiderbichl were waiting at the stud farm. Sheer horror poured over the farm like a dark bell, accompanied by shaking heads, anger and perhaps also despair at so much misery.
The condition of the horses was...
Do you know the faint feeling when you can no longer find the right words? You see photos and there are scenes where you see horses that are only skin and bones holding together. Many horses were severely injured. They had bite wounds on their faces and bodies, and all these wounds were untreated. No wound cleaning, no ointment, no bandage. A veterinarian who was called in found a deep rib wound in a horse that could no longer stand up. Standing up had become impossible. It would have died unnoticed at some point. We humans cannot feel the pain for the horse, we can only imagine it. The eyes are tired, half closed.
Casimode and Corrona
are now at Gut Aiderbichl France. There, they have found many horse friends, they have shady shelters, a great stable and animal keepers who try to mend their broken hearts and souls. Louis, the estate's caretaker, is often with the new arrivals, petting them. I wonder if he can stroke away their pain, suffering and lonely lives in the dirt. They say time heals all wounds. We will see.
Gut Aiderbichl France is graced by a beautiful, very old French country castle. Rescued horses have been living all around it for many years, and they can lead a paradisiacal life there. And Casimode and Corrona have definitely earned this paradise. More cannot be said in reparation to the catastrophe in their earlier years. There are no words for so much suffering and terrible conditions in which the two lived.
"Don't fret, don't be angry with people. Many don't know any better. Maybe this thought helps." (Michael Aufhauser)
Michael Aufhauser was lost 24 hours in the thought of helping animals and convincing people that they are living beings and not unfeeling objects. "They don't know any better..." - this thought sits in all our hearts and helps us when we tell about animals that were in the dead end, like Casimode and Corrona.
A horse, a pony, a donkey, a pig, a chicken, a monkey and all the many animals on our farms forget nothing, but they forgive everything. Thank you for your support, because only thanks to you, we can help animals like Corrona and Casimode and give them a nice life until their natural end of life. Please continue to support us with a small donation or with an animal sponsorship for Corrona or Casimode. Thank you very much.
