Farewell to Bruno

We will miss you

Bruno was a character that you first had to get to know in order to understand and love him. Everything that could possibly go wrong in his life did, and now his big chance to live a real dog's life at Gut Aiderbichl Maria Schmolln was to come. But fate is sometimes a mean traitor: Unfortunately, Bruno left us on 23.12.2020 and we still can't believe it.

When we found Bruno in October 2019 in Salzburg Land, not only he was desperate, but also his former owner. She was more than overwhelmed with his attitude and had asked us for help. But what had happened until that moment that made the situation escalate?

Bruno's history was unfortunately riddled with violence, because he was supposed to be a good hunting dog.
An animal lover finally took him in. But what was supposed to save him was ultimately his undoing.

Unfortunately, neither of them could get along with each other; Bruno's trauma was already too deep. When the woman finally fell ill herself, the situation seemed hopeless. Almost around the clock, Bruno was stuck alone in the basement, no daylight, no touch, no hope...We are sure that the owner loved him very much and wanted to take care of him, but in the end just could not. At last Bruno was locked in the cellar all alone for three days without food...During this time, the woman contacted us and asked for help with tears.

Unsure what to expect here, we set out to pick up Bruno. Already in the first seconds it was clear: Bruno had severe problems that would not be easy to solve. But nothing is impossible and we were determined to help him.

After an examination we found out that his cruciate ligament was torn and he needed an expensive operation immediately. His resocialization would also consume vast amounts of funds. So we decided at that time to turn to our supporters with a call for help. Thanks to your help, we were able to provide Bruno with the comprehensive medical care and also emotional care that he so richly deserved. Many thanks for that!

Consistent training and lots of love helped Bruno to gain a little confidence, but he would never become a "normal" dog. That didn't bother us: he was allowed to be the way he was and we loved him for it. Bruno felt more comfortable at Gut Aiderbichl Maria Schmolln from day to day and had built up a very close bond especially with our Klaus. It is really fascinating that animals can trust again after such a fate.

On the morning of 23.12.2020, something was noticeable about Bruno. He didn't want to eat and he seemed to be kind of limp. We took him for a walk to stimulate his appetite. When even that didn't help, we let him rest for a while, but always kept a close eye on him. Our Gut feeling told us that something was wrong, so we decided to take him to the veterinary hospital as soon as possible. After many examinations, we received the terrible diagnosis: a ruptured tumour in the abdominal cavity.

We had to make a decision quickly and weigh up all the options. What should we do? What was the right decision? What was best for Bruno? How great was his pain and the chances of recovery?

...peacefully we let Bruno go over the Rainbow Bridge....

In the end, his pain was too great and the prognosis for recovery was unfortunately extremely poor. We are incredibly sad that we had to let Bruno go so shortly before Christmas. At the same time, we are incredibly grateful that we were allowed to get to know Bruno. He did not have it easy in his much too short dog life, but we hope that we were able to give him at least a few beautiful moments full of love and trust.

From the bottom of our hearts, we would once again like to thank everyone who made the operation and his resocialisation possible with their donation. A special thank you also goes to our team at Gut Aiderbichl Maria Schmolln, who with so much love and dedication made sure that Bruno felt comfortable and was able to experience that there are also beautiful moments in life and something like love. Goodbye big Bruno, we will miss you very much and hope that where you are now you will experience a life full of love, confidence and beautiful moments.
