The "Schnackerin" from Gut Aiderbichl
A baby donkey fights its way into the world at Ballermann Ranch
It was on a bitterly cold December night when quietly - almost unnoticed - a tiny little donkey was born at Gut Aiderbichl's Ballermann Ranch in Lower Saxony:
Baby Sally was born.
The little worm was shivering all over, it was so icy cold. But God had meant well for the little life, Sally was allowed to be born in the midst of her family of grandmother, aunts and brother Harry. They packed the little tiny one into the deep straw, where it was quite cosy and warm.
What great luck for such a small life, because only through the courageous intervention of Gut Aiderbichl, it was possible to save the entire donkey family and give them a new, safe home at Ballermann Ranch, the northernmost offshoot of Gut Aiderbichl. The owner had become unemployed, his marriage had broken down. No one wanted to take in the donkeys as family. The carrying donkey mum Lucy was threatened with separation from her sisters and grandma Bonita. She would have been completely frightened; all alone with her baby in her belly.
When Dieter Ehrengruber heard about the need of the donkey family, he did not hesitate and decided together with the owners of the party brand "Ballermann", Annette and André Engelhardt, to take them in at the Ballermann Ranch. Only a few months ago, the Engelhardts had built a new village with room for fifteen long ears. It was as if fate had set its course.
In the meantime, the little pipsqueak has become a self-confident donkey girl who does not hesitate to speak her mind loudly to the world. And because Sally always has something to say about everything, everyone calls her the "Schnackerin". If you ever want to visit Sally at the Ballermann Ranch, you will easily find her among all the rescued animals - she is always in the front row.
