Fussl

When children have a heart for animals

From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl

(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

The life story of some animals is like discovering them in a storybook.
Cow calf Fussl was born on a small organic farm in Salzburg. From the very beginning, she was something special. Fussl was born three years ago, and actually looked like a Bambi. She was so small that the farmer could carry her in his arms. Thus began the life of the small, special Fussl ...

Love of animals was part of Anna's life

(...) I have always been very fond of animals, and also vegetarian, and I was incredibly fond of Fussl (...). Anna has become vegan in the meantime.

When Fussl was born, and one could be sure that she would have no future as a Charolais Cattle , the girl tried for days to persuade her parents to keep Fussl. Anna's persistence won out and Fussl could stay.

The first alumni stay failed

In the summer of 2022 Fussl came to the mountain pasture with two more cows. A truck brought the animals there. When the back door of the transporter was opened, Fussl and her two friends escaped. They ran for hundreds of meters until they came to a steep slope. The three cattle fell off and one of the cows unfortunately did not survive the trip. The farmers, Anna and her siblings drove to the wide-open pasture to look for their cattle. Fussl seemed to like it there, and they found her only on the third try. Arriving at the farm, Fussl was nursed back to health.

Fussl and the agreement with Anna's parents

Fussl had her first calf this year, and now a new phase in her life was to begin. It was agreed with the parents that when Fussl had her first calf, she would have to "go away" herself, because as a beef cow she does not give much milk, and keeping her would have been too costly financially.

Fussl would have had to go to the slaughterhouse, but again she was to be lucky. Anna's mother had also grown very fond of Fussl in the meantime, and she suggested contacting Gut Aiderbichl.

Here she is now - the Fussl with the big heart story.

All great people were once children, but few remember it.

~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

May Anna never forget that she took a baby calf to her heart as a child, and never gave up thinking about Fussl to believe.

Thank you, your Gisela
