Pony Oreo and Keks

Neglect - Animal welfare law - Morality

From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl

(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

(...) As an animal owner, one has legal duties to observe and must, among other things, feed, care for and house one's animal appropriately. One speaks of neglect in the sense of the animal protection law if an owner or caretaker does not fulfill these duties due to missing or insufficient care and the animal is thereby considerably impaired in its well-being. It is not assumed that the animal is actually impaired in the form of pain and suffering. Animals are neglected, for example, if they are no longer given food or if their accommodation is left to fall into disrepair. Neglect is the most common form of animal cruelty in practice. (...)

Oreo and Keks were rescued "from not nice keeping" a few months ago by an animal-loving lady who owns ponies herself. The age of the two black geldings is estimated between 10 and 15 years, they were neither dewormed nor vaccinated, and have not seen a farrier for years.

What's going on?

Oreo and cookie lived for years in the summer in the sheep herd and in the winter the Shettys were locked in the box.

What good are animal welfare laws if there are always animal owners who do not even ignore the animal welfare law? For years we have been learning at Gut Aiderbichl horses, ponies and donkeys whose hooves are sick or whose hooves are outgrown.

Do people who do not let the farrier come, think about the immense pain the animal is in? One of the ponies hooves were 20 cm grown out. That is more than cruelty to animals. You can't find a word in the dictionary for such neglect.
It's like having to walk on your toes for years on toenails that are too long - Animals with fully grown hooves suffer pain that no human can imagine.

Oreo and Keks were lucky and had a good farrier

The happiness from her suffering was the lady who did not look away, but Oreo and Keks from their predicament. The pain in the hooves could be taken by the good work of the farrier and with the help of painkillers unfortunately only partially. The pain treatment will still take some time. When the situation has improved, the two new ones can go into the free run with the other ponies.

Oreo and cookie are not special donkey friends

A few days ago Oreo and Keks moved to Henndorf. Now we have to do some educational work and we hope that they get along better with the Henndorf donkeys than with the Carinthian donkeys. After all, they liked to steal the food from the Carinthian donkeys. We hope for the help of the Henndorf ponies, and here especially for Pony-Professor named "Bubi". Pony Bubi is always the adoptive father for incoming ponies. Pony Chris, for example, who came from a clinic as an orphan foal a few years ago, has benefited from Bubi's warm-hearted, patient nature for the rest of his pony life.

Bubi, Amigo, Pumuckl, Bounty and all the other ponies in Henndorf will certainly show Oreo and Keks what a comfortable pony life is all about.

No hard feelings!
Sincerely, yoursincere Gisela
