Lucky
A Chihuahua that knows what it wants
From the perspective of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
At the age of 14, Lucky became a new flatmate at Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia. His owner had taken out an animal insurance policy, which made it possible for him to come to Gut Aiderbichl.
Health problems, a move to a retirement home, financial problems or the death of the pet owner very often put beloved animals in problematic situations: who can take them on?
In this case, animal welfare helped to give Lucky a safe and secure new forever home.
Chihuahua Lucky brings a great story with him
The name Chihuahua is derived from the Mexican province of Chihuahua. The small, lively dogs are said to have lived there freely since the 8th century and were tamed by the Toltec tribe. From the 14th century, the Chihuahuas lived in the temples of the Aztec priests.
The Aztecs saw the dog as a guide to dead souls and it happened that it also died when its owner died. If it was treated well in life, it showed its deceased owner the way to paradise in the afterlife – or so the legend goes.
From the 19th century onwards, more and more tourists came to Central America. Farmers began to sell the small Chihuahuas as souvenirs and breeding of the popular animals increased on a large scale. Today, the Chihuahua has become a popular fashion dog.
Lucky was described as "nervous"
Chihuahuas are playful and cuddly, are adventurous and show strong pack behaviour. They are not made to be carried in handbags, but on the contrary, they want lots of exercise and mental challenges.
Lucky had been living with his owner in a dog shelter and had obviously been found on the street.
He developed trust in his owner, who loved him dearly and now wants him to be well looked after.
Lucky and his new girlfriend Resi and Erika
Resi is an Elo and also came to Carinthia through an animal rescue organisation. Lucky goes for lots of walks with his big friend all day long and feels safe with her.
Another highlight is Erika, a volunteer at the estate. When he smells her, he starts barking and dancing and his eyes light up – his Erika is there. Erika brings well prepared food – she creates the most amazing menus especially for Lucky with lots of love.
His mistress will never forget Lucky, our best friends will never forget us, that's for sure.
We wish Lucky and Resi many healthy, happy years in the forever home of Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia.
