Findus

Did he hobble away or get abandoned?

Rabbit Findus was discovered by vacationers a few weeks ago on a road in the beautiful Austrian Grünau im Almtal. There just sat a rabbit - golden brown with long spoons, and ate grass with relish.

The people didn't want anything to happen to Findus, so they took him with them and drove around the farms all around. But it was to turn out that Findus, who was about a year old, did not belong to anyone.

They remembered Gut Aiderbichl - Schnurstracks drove the two vacationers to Gut Aiderbichl, and here the young rabbit could also stay.

Findus tells his story ...

"You want to know where I came from? Whether I hobbled away or someone abandoned me? I'd say that remains my secret."

He was given the name Findus by the Aiderbichl animal keepers. Every animal at Gut Aiderbichl is given a name. This is how the animals become familiar with voices and people, for example, when they are told, "Hello Findus. Well, are you all right?". Building trust sometimes takes time. Findus did not make it difficult for us to gain access to him.
Upon arrival, the rabbit underwent a health check, and was found that Findus was not neutered. The ears, teeth and legs were fine.

"Yeah, so that's when everybody around me was talking so smart, then I got into a - I think they call it a box - and they took me to a so-called animal hospital.
Then I'm missing the thread for a while - I don't know, but after I found the thread again, something was different. They said I was neutered now! Anyway. I don't know. I'm fine here!".

For some time now, rabbit Findus has been hopping around cheerfully and confidently in the rabbit warren. Now and then Findus has a little rabbit race with his friend Karuso. Sometimes one wins, then the other.

"There are really beauties of rabbits here. I especially like snowflake. She told me that she lived in a family because the children wanted a rabbit. In the beginning they dealt with her a lot, but more and more the children lost interest in Snowflake. So she was brought to Gut Aiderbichl by the father of these children. When she tells this story, she hides her sad eyes behind her long furry hair. Even if many people don't want to believe it - we rabbits have feelings and feel joy and sadness."

Thoughts before purchase

Rabbits should be kept at least in pairs. They are sociable, playful, active and curious. If kept well, they quickly become trusting and enjoy playing with their humans. Bored sitting in the corner, not interested in anything and shyly reacting to people, the animals become only with wrong attitude. Before purchasing a rabbit, it makes sense to ask yourself whether you really have enough time and desire to keep rabbits in a species-appropriate manner and to keep them busy for as long as they live. Rabbits can live for more than 10 years.

"Yes, exactly. And people, think twice about keeping a rabbit. Trying out whether you like a rabbit is not possible at all. You can try apple juice or a juicy carrot, but not an animal .... With respect. Sorry. But whining afterwards is useless - only abandoned animals".

As long as humans think that animals do not feel, animals feel that humans do not think.
