Luke the cat and his sister La Belle

purring friends

From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl

(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

Cats - the big darlings on four paws. There are many reasons why cats are even more popular with people than dogs. Cats are loyal friends, they like to be stroked, they don't need to be walked, they get along well on their own, they like to play and cats like to comfort their humans.
However, cats also need people who have time to play with them, they bring ticks into the home (unless the cat is an absolute indoor cat), there are costs for food and for the vet. People have to put up with scratched furniture, the hair can be annoying and for many people, dead mice and snakes brought into the house by the cat are a problem.

So it's important to consider: can I imagine my life with a cat unconditionally?

Over 900 cats now live on the Gut Aiderbichl home and meeting farms. Where do all these purring creatures come from? Many cats come to Gut Aiderbichl because of animal welfare, others because they were abandoned or because they suddenly developed an allergy. The catastrophic conditions in Ukraine have also left their mark on the animals living there. Thanks to the financial support of our animal friends, we have been able to take in countless cats (and dogs) and nurse them back to health.

Luke and his sister La Belle were confiscated by the veterinary office. The uncontrolled reproduction of the cats could only have been stopped by neutering them. As a result, more and more animals were living in a house with their humans - everything around them had gotten out of hand. The animals were eventually confiscated.

Luke and La Belle - are they siblings?

If, as in this case, cats breed uncontrollably, it becomes difficult at some point to assess the real status of the family. Without neutering, the cat population in Luke and La Belle's accommodation has continued to increase. This means that the cats confiscated a few months ago are probably all "somehow" related to each other.

People who no longer have their environment under control also neglect the health of their animals. Parasites, various diseases and inbreeding - anything is possible when many animals are more or less left to their own devices.

Luke and La Belle will probably still need a while before they can experience a regular, healthy everyday life.

"A flock of kittens is also something beautiful ..."

There are still many people who believe that their cat must have given birth at least once. It is also said that, in the eyes of many people, a mother cat becomes a happier cat through her litters. Or who is really happier, the human?
Three to five kittens are cuddly, adorable and simply adorable. You may be able to place the cat's first litters with relatives and friends, but this approach won't work in the long term.

Let's wish Luke and La Belle that they can enjoy the first warm rays of sunshine in a few weeks and that they can feel completely at home in the Aiderbichl cat family.

The eyes of a cat are windows that let us look into another world

Simply to think and rethink. Yours sincerely, Gisela
