Noriker Filu
At the end of his life?
From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
(...) our tame, child-loving Filu has had huge problems with his hooves for about 5 years and this is the last chance. (...) But now, unfortunately, we have reached a point where we are too much burdened psychologically and financially, and ask Gut Aiderbichl for help (...).
Filu was with his owner from birth. Already the mare was in care of the lady, she then bought the foal and Filu is her heart horse. If we can not help, there is only one option left: euthanasia.
Diagnosis: bilateral high grade hoof cancer
A devastating, sobering diagnosis. Our colleague Eva Zach is a horse manager and used to a lot. However, time and again there are situations where one stands rooted to the spot, looks at terrible photos of sick hooves, and then has to decide: let live and take in, or advise euthanasia.
The photos Eva held did not tell a good story about Filu's previous hoof care and treatments.
The previous owners had tried to manage and heal the hoof disease, but unfortunately there was no improvement. They had reached the end of their rope financially and also psychologically with Filu's care.
Four days before the euthanasia, the Aiderbichler horse transporter reached Filu, and so his continued life was secured. A look at his hooves showed that he had probably not seen a farrier in months. A quick solution had to be found.
Dieter Ehrengruber and Eva discussed in a crisis meeting to give Filu a chance at all costs. "There's no such thing as can't. There's a solution for (almost) everything" - Dieter Ehrengruber had Filu taken to the rehab station in Egg, Switzerland. Dr. Karina Klein, Egg Rehab Station, studied the facts. No stone should be left unturned - Filu is now in Switzerland for rehab, and we hope the best for him.
The burden of a sick horse
Horses with serious illnesses always present pet owners with emotional and financial problems. Sometimes conventional medicine helps too little, or no longer.
The cooperation between Gut Aiderbichl and the Sandgrueb Foundation in Egg is immensely important when faced with the decision: is there any chance of a cure, or is euthanasia the only absolute option? All the findings that are made in Egg with various equine diseases will subsequently also be able to help horses that live outside this holistic rehabilitation station and may be suffering and looking for help.
Filu will be treated in Egg, rehabilitated and after successful treatment will be rehomed at Gut Aiderbichl Heimathof Deggendorf.
Filus horse soul
The holistic therapy approach in Egg pays attention to the physical, but also the psychological problems of the horses. Filu will be able to experience not only intensive veterinary care, but also attention, time and love from the caretakers.
Let's hope that Filu will not get to the end of the line, but to a new start in his relatively young life (about 13 years). We all keep our fingers crossed for you - dear Filu!
Don't just walk smooth roads, walk paths that no one has walked before, so that you leave traces, and not just dust!

Let's be confident and leave Filu to the specialists in Egg.
Sincerely, your Gisela
