Penny
picked up heavily pregnant in Romania
Numerous romanian dogs have already given birth to their puppies at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. In front of the gate of the shelter at Gut Aiderbichl Romania, boxes with puppies are repeatedly left, dogs are thrown over the fence, or some strays walk up and down in front of our gate until the staff notice them and bring them into the shelter.
On the way back from the ukrainian border there was a call for help
Aiderbichl animal rescuers had driven food and bandages to the border of Ukraine. Tired and full of impressions of the warlike scenes, they were on their way back to Austria. A telephone call wanted them to turn around. A heavily pregnant dog was to travel with them to Austria so that she could give birth to her puppies in safety and security.
A nameless stray
became Penny
The dog was lying down in front of a Penny supermarket in Romania, very pregnant. Maybe someone threw her something to eat here and there or she found food scraps in the rubbish bins? An animal-loving person took her into his private home and contacted Gut Aiderbichl in Romania. There Penny was taken in and given to the returning animal rescuers to take her back to Austria. At the Schroffnergut, an outlying farm of Gut Aiderbichl in Salzburg, a dog room was set up and everything was prepared for the birth.
The birth of 11
puppies went without
complications
On the second day of her arrival at the Schroffnergut, Penny built herself a den. The panting increased and so the birth of her puppies was announced. From three o'clock in the morning, it was one after the other: Paul, Pauline, Pascha, Phil, Pia, Pablo, Pat, Perl, Pico, Pedro, Peter wanted to come out of Penny's belly. "Hello, here we are!" - Penny's eleven puppies seemed to call out. One by one, little creatures had seen the light of day (eyes still closed, of course). Penny licked and nursed her little babies and also made sure that her little canine babies drank her milk right away.
What goes on in a dog baby ward?
Penny is a wonderful mum, and yet also happy to find human support in caring for her eleven little ones. They are weighed and measured, have the puppies gained weight and are they growing well? Then there's a tummy ache and they need a massage. Penny is full of love and attention for them.
In order to relieve the mother dog, she is already being fed. It's funny when the little doggy eyes stare spellbound at the plates. You might think they are asking themselves "Hm, what's that? It looks different from mummy's milk somehow!". Once they've tried a bite - then they're off. Eating makes you tired, and sleeping makes you fit. Penny's puppies snuggle close together and sometimes lie on top of each other.
While the puppies sleep, Penny is taken for a walk and enjoys a little peace and quiet outside in nature. As soon as she comes home, her pups crawl to her and look for the milk.
It is nice to help and save. Thank you for supporting the work of Gut Aiderbichl and for enabling us to give animals like Penny a protected home again and again.
