Cortessa and Nemisis
a human fate brought the horses to Henndorf
For many years, Cortessa and Nemisis accompanied a Viennese veterinarian. They trusted each other and enjoyed the woman's loving treatment of them, but an event in the veterinarian's life was to abruptly change the life situation of the three friends.
It was not a lack of love and care that prompted the two horses to find a new home at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. It was desperation and a lack of financial resources.
An aortic aneurysm made the move unavoidable
After the health catastrophe happened, the path of suffering for the veterinarian began.
All therapies are not cushioned from state side - the costs must be borne by the woman in need of care herself. Everything around was neither strengthwise nor financially further sustainable. The decision was made: the two beloved horses needed a new home.
There was no way back
The vet wanted her two darlings to be in the care of Gut Aiderbichl and contacted Dieter Ehrengruber, who immediately agreed to take in Cortessa and Nemisis. Perhaps it was the memory of the day when Michael Aufhauser was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm? Maybe it was the past years that brought it back to Dieter Ehrengruber's mind how, within a second, a person's life suddenly takes a completely different direction and nothing is the way it was?
It was probably a mixture of both: Michael Aufhauser's illness and his love for animals. Dieter Ehrengruber immediately accepted the veterinarian's call for help.
The red halter - The symbol of belonging to Gut Aiderbichl
The philosophy of Gut Aiderbichl says that we look and help where we can. We see animal rescues as our duty to living creatures and, when we help the animal, we help the human being at the same time.
Cortessa and Nemisis arrived in the van at the Henndorf estate. Twelve-year-old Cortessa and twenty-one-year-old Nemisis were excited and looked curiously out the windows.
The horse stable was prepared. Fresh straw and hay, carrots and apples awaited the two new arrivals. Excitedly, Cortessa and Nemisis ran from the outside stable to the inside box and back again.
Then the typical Aiderbichl ceremony of the animals living here began: donkeys, goats, sheep, Bernadette, one of the free-range pigs, Frieda, the warty duck - they all came to welcome Cortessa and Nemisis.
Last but not least, the keepers came with two new red halters and put them on Cortessa and Nemisis. All is well. In the meantime Cortessa and Nemisis are integrated into a group where they feel very comfortable.
Cortessa and Nemisis will never forget their longtime owner. Because once humans have arrived in the hearts of animals, they stay there. Forever.
