The abandoned "carpark cats"
It was one of those hot summer days. Blistering heat made it difficult to work, but despite everything it was also a well-attended day at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. After a long day's work, our employees leisurely walked to the carpark and reviewed the day. Suddenly they thought they heard a desperate "meow" from some direction.
They actually found five frightened cats under a car. When they cautiously went closer, the Aiderbichl staff took their breath away. Desperate, whimpering eyes looked at them in intimidation: a mother cat and her four kittens had been abandoned. Not to think if they had not been found.
Now practised, sensitive work was called for
At first, it was almost impossible to lure the cats. But the kittens quickly realised that there was no danger and with a little patience and playful behaviour, all four babies could be safely caught. The mum was a bit more hesitant, but her hunger was great and so we finally managed to lure her into the box as well.
So the working day was not over yet, because first of all the cats had to be taken care of.
Our animal keepers always have a place for abandoned animals
The boxes were opened and in the infirmary they first tried to check the health of the young kittens - two red, one white-red and one black cat.
The excited mother cat looked at the scenario very sceptically and frightened from the corner of the room. The carers had to be especially patient with her and slowly build up trust.
At the end of the day, everything will be fine...
However, it did not happen so quickly that the cat family felt completely at ease. Even after days, they still radiated insecurity and fear and there was no talk of great trust. At some point, the carers noticed that the situation was turning in a new, positive direction and they were beaming with the cat family.
Aiderbichl do not accuse, we try to help and understand...
As an animal-loving person, how are you supposed to understand when another person abandons his pet? Maybe he lost his job, maybe the new landlord doesn't allow pets, maybe they didn't have the money to neuter the cat? The questions are endless...
In the meantime, we have already been able to place all five cats with loving people. According to information from the new cat owners, every single cat is doing very well and feels completely at ease and grateful.
