Dwarf goat Ossi lived
with chickens and geese
and tells us about himself
Ossi, a black and white dwarf goat, lost his life partner. Goats are very sociable tanimals, and cannot live alone.alone. Ossi seemed to make a virtue out of necessity, and lived together with the chickens and geese after the death of his partner.
Of course, Ossi's owner knew that this could not be a permanent solution, and contacted Dieter Ehrengruberwho said: "Ossi is very welcome in our goat herd!
Dwarf goats come from Africa
Dwarf goats have a black, gray, brown or pied coat, just like our Ossi: he is black and white. Ossi's good nature is characteristic for the dwarf goat. He is curious, sporty and likes to flirt with goat Betty or Simone. Ossi can enjoy his life to the fullest, and he does so day in and day out.
"Imagine if I lived in West or Central Africa, I would be kept primarily for meat production. Yes, who cares about that? For Africans, we goats are virtually a valuable asset. Yeah, ok, but I'm not going to let them eat me!".
A long time ago, the African dwarf goat was transported by ships to Europe and America. Some dwarf goat probably did not reach its destination because during the ship transport many other animals on the ship were fed with goats.
"Yes, imagine if I had been on a transport ship. Unthinkable! But all that was long before my time. Still. How can you? After all, my life story so far is not funny. When my partner died, I thought to myself that somehow things had to go on. I joined the chickens and geese. But excuse me, this chattering would not have been bearable in the long run. No, that was nothing for eternity!".
Ossi's owner's heart was lifted when his goat was promised admission to Gut Aiderbichl. Goats can develop depression and diseases if they have to live alone.
"Depression? Does that have anything to do with food? Because I'm always hungry. But here, in my new forever home, I've never been hungry. There, too, is everything a goat's heart desires. Really great, guys!".
As an intelligent goat, Ossi has already learned the meaning of the small, green food bowl that the animal keepers carry in front of her in the morning and evening:
"Well, what might that mean, dear human? You humans are also smart, I've been told. But whether you humans would know right away that there are lots of treats in the little green food bowl that are supposed to lure us goats into the barn - I'm not so sure. Never mind, so with the treats in the green bowl, the pretty animal keepers lure us into the goat pen. Out in the morning and back into the barn with the treat bowl in the evening. Really cool!".
Ossi is well taken care of and is happy to have so many conspecifics, to have around him.
Have a nice life, dear Ossi!
