"Surplus of men" in the henhouse

Bud Spencer and Terence Hill

The flock of roosters at Gut Aiderbichl is getting bigger and bigger. Sometimes a bride and groom are given a young rooster, sometimes the rooster crows too loudly or it is too aggressive and the rooster has to go.
Bud Spencer and Terence Hill lived with a lot of chickens and over the years the male population grew. The rooster population should be reduced and a slaughter of the two was considered. The two beautiful roosters had lucky and now spend their twilight years in Henndorf. Neither Bud Spencer nor Terence Hill are aggressive, but both run away shyly when a human wants to approach them.

"...Presumably they are no longer fit for consumption..."

The cock surplus had to be reduced, and so almost two beautiful, one-year-old Altsteirer - roosters, were to be slaughtered.
By nature, the rooster is the protector, feeder and defender of his hens. The struggle for position among themselves can sometimes be painful, but Bud Spencer and Terence Hill were not and are not bickering. They are two peaceful, young roosters who belong to a dying domestic chicken breed, namely the Altsteirer. Old Styrians are beautiful chickens - is man really letting them die out?
The rooster has a greenish iridescent plumage on the body, the feathers on the neck are reddish brown. There is also a white color of the Altsteirer, which is extremely threatened with extinction. The clear distinctive mark of the Altsteirer chicken or cock is the feather mop behind the comb.

The disturbing crowing of the roosters

Often messages appear in the daily newspapers - "The rooster always crows in the morning - people feel disturbed while sleeping - the rooster must go...". The animal troublemakers often bring the owner and neighbors who feel disturbed to the lawyer or even to court.
By nature, a rooster crows as soon as the day awakens and he actually wants to call in his hens. And then, when the hens are there, the day begins with clucking and cawing - a completely natural course of events.
The loud sounds of modern technology in discos, or of roaring engine noises obviously disturb people less than sounds from the animal world.

At Gut Aiderbichl the roosters sing with the donkeys in a contest

Bud Spencer, Terence Hill, Franz Josef, Artjom, Felix, Toni, Jörg or Roadrunner - they are wonderful roosters and are not subjected to any laws against noise pollution. At Gut Aiderbichl, the crowing, cackling, animal communication disturbed neither animals nor humans.
Among our roosters there are also true artists, such as Artjom. Whenever he is happy, he crows melodic arias, and nobody is disturbed. On the contrary, our special musical group of donkeys joins in the crowing song of the roosters with loud "Iah".
