Ferret Emma

stayed behind alone...

Emma, a ferret about two years old with long black fur, has lost her life partner and is now sitting alone in a cage. Emma is a very calm ferret, they were looking for a new place for her to live, but it seemed that this was not successful.

The owners can not give the attention Emma needs, and asked to take Emma in. So now she has arrived here, and is just getting used to her new family.

The animal with the robber mask

When keeping ferrets, it is very important that they can spend their lives with at least one conspecific. If they are kept alone, they become lonely.

Ferrets probably have a special attraction for many people. Already more than 2000 years ago began the domestication of the small, nimble animals in the Mediterranean region. Ferrets are descended from the polecat and are hunters.
The scientific name is Mustela Putorius Furo. Translated, it means "smelly mouse thief." It is most likely descended from the European polecat (Mustela Putoris). The addition "furo" derives from fur, the Latin word for thief - and this, in turn, fits quite well with the robber mask that some ferrets wear on their faces.

You just have to like them. However: liking alone is not enough to make a ferret happy. They can live up to 9 years, and require a lot of care, proper nutrition and thoughtful keeping conditions.

Emma's new family

Luzy, Sepp and their offspring Herkules

Luzy and Sepp were discovered on the Internet. The two sociable little animals have a common son - Hercules. For a while the ferret family lived with animal-loving people, but they separated, so they were looking for a new home for the two ferrets.

Luzy, Sepp and cheeky Hercules live in the outdoor enclosure because they were used to it that way. Emma was "socialized" with them - an attempt that succeeded. Emma and Hercules are the same age, and get along splendidly. Emma is allowed to cuddle with Luzy, Sepp and Herkules, there are no problems with food, and now and then she takes a sand bath together with Herkules. One can speak of a happy end for Emma, because she could not have met it better.

Emma shows no more signs of sadness, she eats well and sprints around the enclosure with the cheeky Hercules. All the best, dear Emma...
