Sheep Hampti Tampti
Despite impairment, Hampti Tampti leads a happy life
From the beginning, life was difficult - but Hamti Tamti does not give up!
Every day Hampti Tampti shows us that there is a little fighter in him
Whether with humans or animals - sometimes the start in life is problematic right at the beginning. The fact is that not everything can always be "straight and perfect". Most of the rescued animals on our sanctuaries have learned to cope with their handicaps and enjoy a life full of joy.
The shock was deep - Hampti Tampti came into the world, but...
he did not give any sign of life at first! Mama Alice could not deliver her baby without human help, so obstetric assistance was provided. But because the little bundle was not breathing, the circulation had to be brought up to speed as quickly as possible. Usually a shower of cold water helps in this case. The baby sheep was then rubbed with straw, but there was still no sign of life. Nevertheless, the obstetricians didn't give up!
Resuscitation brought the little one back to life
Hampti Tampti was lifted up by his hind legs so that his body hung vertically. This process was accompanied by heart massage. Almost half an hour passed before Hampti Tampti began to breathe.
Due to the difficult birth, the right shoulder blade was broken
The little sheep could not stand up on its own due to the damaged shoulder and so the veterinarian had to take further steps. The broken shoulder was stabilized with the help of a bandage. Unfortunately, the bandage was too long on the joint and so the front foot and the knee joint stiffened. The humans were despairing, however they spared no expense and brought in a physical therapist for the little baby sheep. It seemed too late, the tendons were already too shortened.
The three children of the sheep owners did not give up on Hampti Tampti
The baby sheep was also very weak due to the difficult start in life and could not drink from mum Alice's udder. So Hampti Tampti was given a bottle. Especially the 13-years-old son of the family took great care of the baby sheep and would have loved to take it to his bed, just to make sure that his little friend lacked nothing. Even at night, the boy got up to feed the needy patient every hour.
Alice was no longer suitable for breeding
Half of the udder had become sick and was no longer giving milk. In this condition, it was unfortunately no longer possible to continue breeding with the pretty mother sheep and there is always a lack of space in the sheep pen anyway.
The special suffering of Hampti Tampti and his mum Alice did not leave the owners' three children unscathed. They loved the little sheep family more than anything and so the parents did not have the heart to drive the animals to the slaughterhouse.
The email to Gut Aiderbichl was desperate and yet full of hope.
"...And since we, or rather the kids, have grown fond of the two sheep due to their special story of suffering, we would be happy if we could get support from you. Even if they are impaired...".
So now Alice and her Hampti Tampti live at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. Our animal keepers also work physiotherapeutically with Hampti Tampti's shortened right leg. He patiently participates every time and does not give up. Despite his difficulties, he is full of joie de vivre and shows people again and again how well he copes with his handicap. Let us wish the brave sheep many more good years in the Aiderbichl sheep group and thank the children who have lovingly and sacrificially looked after him so that their little baby sheep with the handicap can lead a beautiful animal life despite everything.
