Happy ending story

Our commitment for street dogs in Romania

From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl

(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

Homeless dogs in Romania struggle daily to survive. Too little food, cold and snow in winter, heat in summer - these are just some of the challenges Romanian street dogs have to face. I think that street dogs in Spain, Greece or for example also in Italy are not better off.

Street dogs - why do they exist? There are poor, but also rich countries where street dogs can be found. The animals roam the streets looking for food. Sometimes they find something edible, sometimes a stone hits them so they take off, sometimes a car runs over them and they are left lying there, sometimes their throats are cut - I remember the sad story of our Mr. Grey, whom we took from Romania. I will never forget the sad eyes of Mr. Grey. As cruelly as he was treated in his country - after all those years at Gut Aiderbichl he obviously found trust in people again.

Are there animal shelters in Romania?

In the state-run shelters, the street dogs live in indescribably bad conditions. If a stray dog is taken into a state animal shelter, it can only spend a few days there. If it cannot be placed, it is euthanized after two weeks at the latest.

It tightens your throat and you feel pleading dog eyes

One particular sentence by Michael Aufhauser has had a great impact on me: "I look into the eyes of the animals and I am lost...". - i just imagine a shelter where dozens of old and young dogs are looking for someone to pick them up. But most of the time no one comes.

Witness animal welfare

and the castration project in Romania

2021 our animal shelter in Romania was completed. About 150 dogs can be cared for here at any one time. The expenditure of financial means for castrations, feed etc.. is enormous. In order to counteract the misery of the street dogs, we educate the population in Romania about the importance of having a dog or cat neutered. In cooperation with Romanian partner clinics, dogs and cats of the Romanians are castrated free of charge. (a castration costs between 25€ and 30€).
Countless educational talks with the local population regarding animal husbandry and also animal health should help to turn the strays beloved and cared for pets.

Happy ending stories

Coco and Elvis

Outside the gates of Gut Aiderbichl in Romania, dogs are abandoned almost daily, puppies are put in plastic bags, dogs are thrown over the fence. Is this done out of desperation?

I would like to hear from Coco tell - the little Coco could be mediated to Austria. With big brown eyes and big ears she was put into the arms of her new owner. The little Coco with the beautiful chocolate brown fur. She has something of Coco Chanel - the elegance and grace.
Coco enriches the life of the new owners and their first dog Nero got the new title "Coco's professor". He introduced Coco to the dog life. After all, she has no mommy to teach her everything. In the meantime, the two sleep in the same dog bed. Coco could not have met it better. She thanks her mistress and master with daily "happy barking". Coco's eyes say everything she can't say in human language: Thank you.

Elvis - was also taken over by the Aiderbichler Animal Shelter to Austria. He is a charmer and a heartbreaker. Elvis has hishis mistress around his four paws. During work, the "big boy" lies under his desk and dreams away. dreaming away. After work Elvis looks forward to the big dog meadow, where he can run free with all his friends. all with all the dogs. He does this so convincingly that even dogs who don't want to play at all, play with him. One eye is always in contact with his mistress.

Countless dogs in our shelter in Romania are waiting for a new, protected home. Older dogs, many puppies, dogs that may have a handicap, but also many healthy dogs would love to be as happy as Coco and Elvis. All of them are worth to get a nice home with a happy ending.
